Zero was built as a war machine by Dr. Wily in or around the
year 2200. He existed for the better part of that year serving
no one except his master, Wily, during his conquest of the
world. He tore down entire nations and leveled the military’s
of many in his path of destruction, and made the news
worldwide. Not long afterward, as he led a push into the
Middle East, he was confronted by the Reploid known as
Sigma, leader of the Maverick Hunters who had just finished
battling Needleman in North America, who was partnered
with Ringmaster, leader of Shinisteru. The two battled Zero
and narrowly defeated him, Sigma losing his life in the
process, passing away in a pool of their mixed blood. With
the death of Sigma, there was no organized force remaining
on Earth to control the rising Reploid nations.
After that, Zero was taken by Shinisteru and rebuilt, albeit far
weaker than before. It took a good long while to rebuild Zero,
especially with his advanced Zeronium Core complicating
things along with the discovered existence of some sort of
mechanical virus that was self-titled “Infinity”. With the help
of Dr. Light they quickly nullified the infectiousness of the
virus and finished repairing Zero. Once rebuilt, Ringmaster
led Zero’s “reeducation” and taught him all about world
history, especially about the Union of Soviet Socialist
Republics and the evil United States of America that caused
it to collapse. Finishing this, Zero was released on
assignment for Shinisteru.
Not long after that, Ringmaster vanished. Zero then
continued on his way through Asia, an unknown force
directing him to speak with Gate, leader of the People’s
Republic. Once finding Gate giving a speech in Indochina,
Zero goes to speak with him only to be overtaken by the will
of the Infinity Virus, causing a “W” to glow on his forehead as
he loses his mind and attacks Dr. Light, who is also there to
listen to Gate. As Zero attacks, Gate steps in and sacrifices
himself to Zero, saving Dr. Light and causing an Anti-Matter
explosion that sucks the two in, killing Gate and warping
Zero to Peru.
With no new assignment, Zero continues the one he was
assigned and prepares to attack Pirateman’s base in
Venezuela. As he moves north a plane air-drops a message
to him, though Zero originally thinks it to be a bomb.
Activating it he finds it to be a holo-recording from
Needleman himself, stating that he is planning an assault on
Venezuela. Zero ignores the warning, not fully believing it,
and continues on.
As he reaches Venezuela and begins to move down from the
hills towards Caracas that holds Pirateman and his main
force, another WRU plane flies overhead only to be shot
down. Soon Zero realizes the point of the latest attempted
message as a fireball erupts over Caracas, followed by a
billowing mushroom cloud the stood where the city once had.
The blast nearly ended Zero, and after WRU occupational
forces arrived from the Caribbean, Zero infiltrates the POW
camp Pirateman was held at and kills him only to be
captured by Needleman.
In his cell, Zero is visited by Needleman himself who invites
him for more training in the WRU. Zero accepts and makes
his way to what once was the state of Georgia. Arriving
there, Zero murders Needleman and leaves the WRU,
having been under contract of Megaman X and Harpuia.
Upon leaving the WRU, Zero proceeds to systematically
slaughter all of Wily’s generals and infiltrates his fortress
with Megaman X after WRU and New World Alliance troops
invade that last territory, leaving Wily’s military non-existant.
Megaman X and Zero dispatch his body guards, Enker and
Ballade, but fail to stop Wily himself from escaping.
With the Great Reploid Rebellion over, Zero settles in the
Proto Mekvah lands in central Africa, with his love, Iris whom
he met during the Rebellion. They leave together peacefully
for a good while until Zero realizes they are strpped for cash
and enters the tournament Botmania.
Zero sweeps both the Rumble portion and the bracket
portion of the tournament, throwing down powerful
opponents like Needleman and X, and especially Fefnir.
After winning he returns to Iris in Africa and they continue to
live together peacefully.
Living a good year happily, Zero finds himself losing control
of the Infinity Virus once again and ends up punching in Iris’
chest, killing her. Zero loses himself in his grief and goes
insane, beginning a rampage that would go all the way to
Japan.
Upon arriving in Japan, and driven by an insane rage, Zero
attacks Dr. Light who was being held by WRU troops for his
own protection. By pure luck, one of the soldiers guarding
him manage to hit him with a stun gun, disabling Zero and
allowing him to be taken and studied by Dr. Light.
Dr. Light soon developed a way to suppress the Infinity Virus
and awakened Zero to give him the good news.
Without anything to do and his love dead at his hands, Zero
wandered the world, avoiding all that he could and cutting
down any army he came across, WRU, NER, it didn’t matter
to him anymore.
Soon after Needleman’s final victory in the year 2210, Zero
opts to join the Rebellion for unknown and most likely
complex reasons.
